- Download the MX Linux iso Download
- Log into the Proxmox web UI
- Select a storage from the left navigation pane to download the .iso to
- Select ISO Images in the left sub-navigation pane
- Upload the MX Linux installation iso to the Proxmox ISO image library
- Right click the Proxmox node name > Create VM
- Give the VM a unique ID and Name > Next
- On the OS tab, Select the MX Linux installation .iso file, leave the Type as Linux and the Version as 5.x - 2.6 Kernel > Next
- Leave the defaults on the System tab > Next
- On the Hard Disk tab, set the Storage device and Disk size to 30 GiB or more > Next
- On the CPU tab, set Cores to 2 or more and Type to host > Next
- On the Memory tab, set the Memory to 4096 > Next
- Leave the defaults on the Network tab > Next
- Verify the summary and click Finish
- Right click the MX Linux VM in the left navigation pane > Start
- Click console in the left sub-navigation menu
- Press Enter to load MX Linux
- Click Install MX Linux on the MX Welcome dialog box
- Press Escape to cancel checking the installation media
- Click Change Keyboard Settings if needed > Click Next
- Click Next and then Yes to confirm the partition selection
- Enter a computer name, domain and workgroup > Click Next
- Select a Locale and Timezone > Click Next
- Enter a username, user password and root password > Click Next
- Wait while MX Linux copies files and installs
- Click Finish, the VM will reboot
- When prompted to remove the installation media, navigate back to the Proxmox web UI and stop the VM
- Select Hardware from the left sub-navigation menu > Double click the CD/DVD drive > Select Do not use any media > Click OK
- Select Options from the left sub-navigation menu
- Double click QEMU Guest Agent > Check the Use QEMU Guest Agent box > Click OK
- Right click the MX Linux VM in the left navigation pane > Start
- Click console in the left sub-navigation menu
- Login with the username and password set during the installation
- Welcome to MX Linux
Optional Steps
- Launch a terminal window
- Run the following commands
# update software repositories
sudo apt update
# install qemu guest agent
sudo apt install qemu-guest-agent -y - A subsequent reboot is required to complete installing the QEMU Guest Agent
